To be told that what you love eating is
actually of great benefit to you is an interesting fact and that’s why I sourced
for the different reasons why you and I should eat more apples. Continue
reading to know why…
One medium-sized apple contains about four
grams of Fiber. Some of that is in the form of pectin, a type of soluble fiber
that has been linked to bad cholesterol. That’s because it blocks absorption
of cholesterol helping the body to use it rather than store it.
2 Good
for Bone Health
Eating fruit is linked to higher bone density, which is a marker
of bone health.
Researchers think the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory
compounds in fruit help promote bone density and strength.
Some studies show that apples, specifically, may positively
affect bone health. In one study, women ate a meal that either included fresh
apples, peeled apples, applesauce or no apple products. Those who ate apples
lost less calcium from their bodies than the control
group.
3. Makes You
Lose Weight
Apples
satisfy hunger for few calories so it’s not surprising that they can be part of
a healthy diet that promotes weight loss.
And in a recent study, dried
apples also helped participants lose some weight. Women who ate a
cup of dried apples daily for a year lost some weight and lowered their
cholesterol and heart disease markers. Florida State University researchers
think apples’ antioxidants and pectin (a type of fiber) are responsible for the
benefits—and think that fresh apples would be even more effective.
An apple a day or two
has potent anti-cancer abilities that safeguard the body from those
life-sucking cancerous. By sticking onto the cancer causing substances that may
be found in the colon, the dietary fibers found in apples shield the mucous
membranes lining the colon from exposure to toxins and poisonous chemical.
Apple peels are also very nutritious as there may be cancer-blocking compounds
within them. Research shows that the major compounds found in red delicious
apple peels battle further growth of cancerous cells in lung, colon cancer and
breast cancer. So next time you want to toss those peels in the garbage, think
of the nutritious value in them.
4. Fights Cold
While they don’t quite rival oranges, apples are considered
a good source of immune system-boosting vitamin C, with over 8 milligrams per medium-sized
fruit, which amounts to roughly 14 percent of your daily recommended
intake.
